Week on week, you can always count on the BBC Radio 1 streaming player to deliver something worth tuning into. From the legendary Essential Mix to newer programming additions like Skream and Benga’s weekly show, last year’s introduction Diplo & Friends as well as slots from resident presenters Zane Lowe, Annie Mac and Toddla T, the station has pretty much every corner of dance music covered. Radio 1 isn’t slowing down for 2013, either – the famous UK station kicked off the New Year by announcing a change to their In New DJs We Trust roster, replacing Julio Bashmore, Mosca, B Traits and Jordan Suckley with four new names.
Gallic lady-killer/Bromance head Brodinski, Glaswegian Jackmaster, young gun Monki and the Chicago-bred Salva have all been added to the In New DJs We Trust roster, the program dedicated to showcasing the best new dance music and talent. Kicking off with Monki yesterday, a new DJ will join the rotation every month in 2013, each playing four hour-long shows every Thursday night. You can listen to Monki’s first show on the Radio 1 website now, while Jackmaster kicks off his broadcasts on February 21, before Salva starts on March 28 and last but definitely not least, Brodinski’s rotation begins on April 11.
The new recruits certainly have a lot planned for their stint at the station. “I play everything,” Jackmaster told Mixmag. “I’ll play some 90bpm and some 160bpm. I like hip-hop, house, disco, grime, dubstep but I’m certainly quite rooted in the house and techno territory so that will be the basis for my shows but I’ll explore loads of different genres as well.” Salva’s pledged to use his time at the mic to break “the hottest new underground electronic music from the States and abroad,” while former pirate DJ Monki’s keeping her selections rooted in the underground and Brodinksi’s focussing on rap and hip-hop as well as, of course, techno. Good times ahead.
