Techno heavies gather again in 2013 for Time Warp

Once Sven Vath, Richie Hawtin, Ricardo Villalobos, Magda and Seth Troxler have farewelled the Cocoon Heroes tent at the final Future Music Festival stop this March, they’ll all be reconvening in southern Germany on Saturday 6 April 2013. That’s when the king of all-night techno parties, Time Warp, returns to Mannheim for its 19th edition.

By now, heavyweight line-ups are expected of Time Warp, and the usual gang is back together this year. Alongside Sven, Richie and co. are a host of DJs well-practised in big rooms, among them Luciano, Carl Cox, Marco Carola, Chris Liebing, Len Faki, Dubfire and Marcel Dettmann. Then on the housier tip there’s Jamie Jones, Visionquest, Dixon and Matthias Tanzmann (to handpick just a few), with another prime slot for the esteemed Laurent Garnier, who is back to solo DJ sets after winding up the L.B.S. project in Lyon, France this month. In the words of John Digweed, who played Room 2 of Time Warp last April: “This should be the template for festivals around the world.”

In 2012, ITM’s Angus Paterson travelled to Mannheim for Time Warp, delivering this in-depth report. As the review read: “There are no overblown headliners booked to draw a larger crowd, no concessions to other genres, and even though the DJs might be playing to 10,000 strong crowds at some points, there are certainly no compromises in their musical selections. The organisers do it properly, and they still draw around 20,000 or more punters…Every other scene could only hope to have a flagship party as excellent as this to make the pilgrimage for every year.”
