Geopolitical update: Dada Life declare sovereign nation of Dada Land

Right now, Dada Life’s to-do list probably looks a bit like this: ensure their new album Rules of Dada is on high rotation in clubs around the world. Rev up for that April Australian club tour. Get the UN to recognise the sovereign nation of Dada Land. Yes, in typical outrageous fashion, the Swedish duo have announced that the next item on their agenda is nothing less than claiming independence for the newly declared nation of “Dada Land”.

No strangers to silliness, they of the on-stage inflatable bananas have pledged to get their own (no fixed location) state recognised. So how do they plan to go about this? Tongue firmly in cheek, they’re calling on fans around the world to attend a rally in their city tomorrow demanding recognition from all governments. If all goes to plan, that’ll make March 6 “Dada Land Independence Day”. The good news for Sydney residents looking to defect is that we’ve been selected alongside London, New York, Stockholm and Washington DC to host one of the five international rallies. So if you’re tired of pledging allegiance to the Southern Cross, you’ll want to head down to the Opera House at 12.30pm tomorrow, March 6 to support the cause.

“We’re really looking forward to coming to Australia next month and getting everyone ugly,” the Dada Life boys announced. “In the meantime, we’re appealing to Julia Gillard and the government of Australia to help us in getting the international community to recognize Dada Land as an independent sovereign nation. To further this great cause, we will be organizing a march out the front of the iconic Australian Opera house steps on March 6. Join us!” After that? Just kick back, relax and wait for Ban Ki-moon to call.
