With the New York, Chicago and of course Las Vegas editions on the way, Electric Daisy Carnival has announced it is crossing the Atlantic. The festival will take over Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on Saturday 20 July 2013, right at the peak of the London summer. Insomniac, the powerhouse behind EDC, is partnering with England’s long-running Cream brand to present the event.
As the announcement puts it: “The venue, made famous across the globe during the 2012 Summer Olympics, will be transformed into Electric Daisy Carnival’s fully immersive audiovisual experience. The event will bring together state-of-the-art production with the world’s top electronic artists and rising stars. Theatrical performers, dynamic large-scale art installations amidst multiple stages, and numerous full-size amusement rides and attractions will create the ultimate fan experience.”
The line-up is headed by a pair of dance music’s biggest names, Tiesto and Avicii. Then there’s some of EDC’s regular mainstage recruits, like Steve Angello, Porter Robinson, Alesso and Hardwell. The UK contingent comes in with the likes of Caspa and Rusko, with drum & bass also represented.
For the industry observers, the alliance between Cream and Insomniac is a significant one. Live Nation’s purchase of the iconic Cream brand last May signalled the beginning of the ‘EDM gold-rush’, with extravagant cash values entering the picture. Cream’s founder James Barton stepped on a plane to L.A. to become the president of the Live Nation Electronic Music division. Insiders are expecting an imminent announcement of Insomniac’s official alliance with Live Nation. Destructo, whose L.A. company HARD Events was also bought by Live Nation, is on the bill for EDC London.
“Bringing Insomniac’s Electric Daisy Carnival experience across the Atlantic to London has been my dream for years and I couldn’t ask for a better partner than Cream, who is a world-wide fixture in electronic dance music culture,” Insomniac CEO Pasquale Rotella says. “I’m confident that our collaboration will expose Insomniac’s returning fans and those who have yet to visit our United States festivals an opportunity to unite this summer in London.”
