MOS taps the zeitgeist with 'Melbourne Bangers' compilation

Ministry of Sound’s compilations have always been in step with the club trends of the moment. In 2011, MOS delivered their first Sound of Dubstep compilation at the peak of the genre’s rapid, ever-divisive ascent. Earlier this year, their long-running This Is compilation turned its attention to trap. Now, it’s time for Ministry’s latest guide to dance music trends – and this time, it’s the Melbourne Sound in the spotlight.

This is…Melbourne Bangers hones in on the sound dominating Melbourne’s club scene right now. As MOS put it: “The ‘Melbourne Sound’ brings clubbers a refreshing slant on electro; packed with soaring filthy bass lines, bottom heavy DF fillers and hard-hitting rhythms.” On mixing duties is Melbourne man Joel Fletcher, who’s gone to work cementing the big-room sound with 24 tracks from scene leader Will Sparks, himself and local talent like Chardy, SCNDL, Tom Piper and Timmy Trumpet.

While the latest This Is… compilation might be aimed at a local market, the Melbourne Sound’s reach has spread far beyond its hometown. “I’ve been supporting the Melbourne sound at the moment and even trying to produce it,” Dutchman Laidback Luke wrote in an editorial for the Huffington Post earlier this month. “Globally, it’s a new and fresh sound that I see as a little brother of the Dutch sound and a nice new challenge to me!” If you’re not already, get acquainted with the sound courtesy of the MOS minimix below. Or if Ministry already has you sold, you’ll be pleased to hear that the Melbourne Bangers compilation is out now.

what is distinctive about that sound? not including the MOS press release description... sounds like generic electro house music.

If you were talking sausages this may be acceptable for a bunnings banger. Melbourne should be remembered for it's techno, not this shit.
