Miami showdown: Deadmau5 unleashes on Porter Robinson

Image for Miami showdown: Deadmau5 unleashes on Porter Robinson

When Deadmau5 hit Miami nightclub Mansion for a New Year’s Day show as part of his ‘Unhooked’ North American tour, the outcome made headlines. “Putting fans in the back and trust fund kids up front is fucking stupid as fuck,” Joel Zimmerman told fans during a chat on his new Deadmau5 live site, after VIPs texting in the front row raised his ire. The resulting pledge? He “won’t be playing any more Miami clubs.”

But when production prodigy Porter Robinson was due to hit Miami a few days later, he was gearing up for a very different experience. South Beach institution Story, the 21-year-old tweeted, is one his favorite-sounding clubs, and he’s made regular visits there over his career so far. When one fan referenced Deadmau5’s recent Miami experience, however, it didn’t take long for the mau5 to tweet back with a firestarter.

From there, it was a textbook Deadmau5 Twitter beef, as things grew more heated between the pair. It was up to dance music’s resident troublemaker Dillon Francis to step in and break things up (naturally), the Without You hit-maker suggesting the two settle their differences on a Coffee Run. You can take in the full back-and-forth below.

Dillon might’ve put the Twitter disagreement to rest, but Deadmau5 and Porter Robinson will be able to nut it out face-to-face when they both hit Australia in March for Future Music Festival. Until then, it’s back to regular programming – the mau5 spent his birthday uploading new music to live.deadmau5.com and Porter took to Facebook to let fans know he “finished an album song today. i’m in the home stretch.” As it should be.
