Ursula Rucker, the highly-regarded and dynamic performance poet and recording artist from Philadelphia, is to headline the inaugural Brisbane leg of Amnesty International’s annual Freedom Festival. The Freedom Festival, which is in support of Amnesty International’s ’Stop Violence Against Women’ campaign, is a series of concerts that will be held around Australia over 20 days from 23 September to 9 October.
The Brisbane leg of this exciting national music event will be held at the Globe (Fortitude Valley) on September 30th, and will feature a mix of bands, DJs and VJs. The style of music will be a mix of funk/groove/dance/soul/hip hop/reggae/breakbeat & spoken word. Three international touring artists have been secured to perform, as well as some of Brisbane’s best local talent.
The concerts will be headlined around the country by Ursula Rucker, dynamic performance poet and recording artist from Philadelphia (!K7 Records), Ben Mono, a broken beat DJ from Munich (Compost Records), and MC Blaquereign from New Zealand (Sugarlicks Records). In Brisbane, these artists will be supported by a local bands F.A.Q., Elation and The Informants, and DJs and VJs who will be showcasing their talents in support of this year’s campaign message: ‘Stop Violence Against Women’.

(Brisbane, Aus), The Informants (Brisbane, Aus), Statler & Waldorf, DJ Paprika (Cutucada), DJ Ravi (Sunnysideup), DJ Bluesabelle, DJ Nick 1 (The Serenity), The Scratch Foundation (Matty Blades and Stoned Groove) and DJ Tequinox.
