The Easter Sunday party at the Greenwood Hotel, which featured a special live performance from local heroes Infusion, joined on the weekend the growing number of Sydney events that have been targeted by police and sniffer dogs. Police reportedly arrived at about 10pm on Sunday night, insisting that the music be turned off while they took sniffer dogs through the venue.
The organisers of Sounds on Sunday claim they were not allowed to make an announcement during the raid, and by the time the police search was completed all the punters had left the venue – assuming that the night was over.
The promoters have apologized to the punters in a statement issued today. “Sounds on Sunday normally closes at 10pm, but we had been expecting to run until 11pm on Easter Sunday. We apologise for any disappointment to customers – as I’m sure you can imagine [it] is was very much out of our control.”

Gee the cops did their research, raid a club when it normally closes, drugs are well and truly all gone by that stage!

Although people do actually know that the drugs that they may be carrying are illegal when they stop to think about it, it is easy to forget what kind of punishment you could cop if caught. The last thing that most people are thinking about when at a club or festival is that they could end up with a massive fine, in gaol and with a criminal record that retricts their ability to travel. the young party crowd just want to have a good time and this recent increase in drug raid has potential to hamper the culture. Obviously drugs can be harmful, but in small quantities they can be good fun too.

It may have closed early, but jeez it was fun beforehand! Gotta love smiling at the clowns who put on a raid @ the end of an event! Had to be 15 undercover there too? Some familiar faces holding a pooch @ the end.....!

I think it's good that these guys get out there, they really make a difference, you can really see the drug numbers going down! Wait no thats total crap. So let me get this straight, they used a bunch of police resources to raid a place that was causing no harm to any one but themselves? Correct me if im wrong, but don't you think they could be out there booze bussing - getting people who could kill others, patroling the roads to ensure they are safe. DO SOMETHING USEFUL TO STOP PEOPLE HARMING OTHERS! So tell me if this suggestion doesn't make sense. MAKE IT LEGAL? Make people who want to take drugs pass a drug test that ensures they know the side effects, monitors how much they take, and heavily tax them so they are around the same price people pay on the street, but the money goes to rehab. Also wouldn't this allow for bartenders to slow the over doses by refusing service to those who are too 'intoxicated' as well as ensuring these drugs don't have things such as dr death in them?

Same old, same old, cops targeting dance parties/events where USALLY the only ones caught are punters with small amounts of drugs. Perhaps the NSW Police should take notice of the NSW Ombo's report into the general ineffectiveness of drug sniffer dogs and aim their resources at the "big dealers" who almost never frequent these types of places. Also I am not sure, what legal power the police are relying on to have a venue shut down its music whilst a raid is going on. Sure, bring the little furry sidekicks in, but shut off the music, no way :(

I called in the cops because the music was disrupting my quiet Sunday afternoon at home in my North Sydney apartment.
