Down to Australia that is! That’s right, one of hip hop’s true veterans and household names Ice Cube will be here later in the year for a national ‘Straight Outta Compton’ tour with dates confirmed for Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.
Ice Cube began his career as one of the founders and voices behind the classic (and highly controversial) LA group NWA (it stands for ‘Niggaz with Attitude’ for those of you who don’t know). Remembered for their revolutionary lyrics and production, the 1989 album Straight Outta Compton was nothing less than groundbreaking. Its sound was heavy, urban and very political and it certainly made its mark on the musical and cultural landscape with over 9 million sales in America alone.
You may remember them from such songs like Fuck Tha Police and Gangsta Gangsta, notorious for their aggressive and controversial lyrical content that even earned them attention from the likes of the FBI and the US Secret Service. Since the group disbanded, Ice Cube has pursued a massively successful solo career with albums like Amerikkka’s Most Wanted and Lethal Injection racking up over 200 million sales. You might even be familiar with his high-profile career as a Hollywood actor in films like Friday and Boyz N The Hood (just don’t mention Are We There Yet or you’ll get bitch slapped).
Ice Cube will be touring Australia alongside Westside Connection heavyweight William Calhoun, aka WC. Check below for tour dates!
Friday August 24th: Brisbane, The Arena
Monday August 27th: Sydney, Enmore Theatre
Friday August 31st: Perth, Metro City
Monday September 3rd: Melbourne, The Forum
