The first ever ‘inthemix flash rave’ kicked the October long weekend off with a bang in Sydney last night, Friday September 28th, causing a stir when 400-500 up-for-it punters converged on the Town Hall steps in the CBD for silent dance party. Counting down to the predetermined start time, when the clock struck 6.11pm everyone began spontaneously dancing to whatever music they had playing on their iPod/mp3 player, and with George St busy with rush hour traffic you can only imagine the pandemonium caused.
Promoted virally through the ITM site and forums, and sent on to countless people via emails and through Facebook, the ‘flash rave’ was an astounding success, so much so that several mainstream media outlets were quick to jump on the story. Reports of the impromptu dance frenzy have already appeared on News.com.au and Channel 7, and the ITM forums are abuzz with discussion following the event. Photo galleries and a stack of videos have already popped up on Flickr and YouTube, with more expected to appear over the next few days.
