Bonds stung by Bonde Do Role's saucy lyrics

ABC’s Media Watch program last night revealed that clothing giants Bonds were forced to pull their latest advertising campaign when it was brought to their attention that the lyrics in the backing music (Bonde Do Role’s song ‘Gasolina’) were quite a bit more ribald than legally allowed for free to air TV.

Bonde Do Role – who are touring Australia over the summer, playing at Field Day, Falls Festival, Southbound and more – are a baile funk act from Curitaba, Brazil, who are widely known for their highly sexualised lyrics. However most people, even many of their fellow Brazilians, can’t understand them as their songs are sung in Portuguese street slang.

Bonds were tipped off on the real meaning behind the music in their latest ad, for their new ‘Kaleidoscope’ underwear range, when emailed by a member of the public. Claiming to have had the lyrics translated before going to air, it seems Bonds didn’t get the right person to look over the song, as this is what was playing in the ad breaks!

“Marina Amphetamine
Marina Gasoline
Marina is on fire!!!
Hum ooh hah
Meet me after school
And I’ll beat you like a gorilla
Bite you like a whore
Come and play with my pussy”

Not surprisingly, the ad has mysteriously disappeared off air… But if you want to remind yourself, some bright spark put a copy up on YouTube:
