At times clubbing can be a pretty self-serving (ok, hedonistic is a much better term) pursuit, so if you like the idea of having a boogie for a good cause, be sure to check out Bamboo Banger at the Oxford Arts Factory on Wednesday 5th December.

In aid of the Bornean Orangutan, this delightful creature is currently facing extinction, with estimates indicating that the species could be entirely wiped out within 10 years (there’s only 20,000 left in the wild!) It’s happening because of continued logging of their natural habitat. “Poor concession management, slash and burn agriculture, illegal logging and the massive expansion of palm oil plantations have all contributed to a decreasing rainforest habitat,” the press release for Bamboo Banger asserts.

Far from your usual ‘make a gold coin donation on entry’ charity gig, Bamboo Banger is set to make a measured impact on their chosen benefactor, as every punter who heads along will be directly benefiting the expansion of rainforests in Borneo. $15 at entry earns you 3-square metres, while $30 gets you 6-square metres. The lineup is a veritable who’s who of Sydney’s indie-electro-crossover scene, with both live acts and DJs lending a hand.

Bamboo Banger lineup:

Soft Tigers (live)
Lions At Your Door (live)
Grafton Primary (live)
APSCI (live)
Catcall (live)
Ajax
Jaime Doom
Bumblebeez (DJ set)
Kato
Anna Lunoe
Ro Sham Bo
Captain Franco
Knife Machine
Hoops
S.Y.L.K (live)
Hey Now DJs
Gay Bash DJs

If that wasn’t enough to whet your whistle, then a free drink on entry and giveaways on the night – including a Harbour Bridge Climb for two – should have you excited indeed. Check out ITM Whatson for more info!

In the meantime, get acquainted with the Borneo Orangutan with this video from the BOS Sanctuary in Indonesia:
