We’ll be stepping into the polling booth tomorrow, to potentially impact the biggest shift in Federal power in more than a decade. So who should you vote for? Dance’s most politically outspoken figure reckons he knows who you ‘shouldn’t’ vote for… Paul van Dyk will soon be back in the country for another round of shows, and this week the German DJ/producer spoke to ITM and revealed he’s far from impressed with the leadership of Prime Minister John Howard.
“I realise that apparently your guy is facing some serious problems. It doesn’t look to good for Howard,” he said. “To be honest, I think some of the major decisions he made over the last 11 years were completely wrong, and on a global political scale I think a change would be something good.”
Paul labels John Howard’s approach to our country’s indigenous population as inhumane, with a shift only occurring in the lead up to the current election and he’s also highly critical of the Liberal Government’s involvement with the war on Iraq. “Very obviously, the guy you have in office now doesn’t stand for peace, and if you look at some of his policies, he’s not very democratic either. So if you want to change your country for something better, go out and vote.”
Think that’s a bit rich coming from a DJ/producer from another country? Whether he’s got any right to pass judgment or not, it’s more than a ‘flash in the pan’ piece of political commentary. His involvement in charity and politics has been conistent throughout his career: he’s a figurehead for the Rock the Vote organisation in the US, and he’s been awarded the Berlin Medal of Honour for his commitment to charity and social issues in his country.
