ITM Forums quoted by lazy reporter... again!

It was only last month that the ITM Forums were lazily misquoted in media hype surrounding the Bindeez toy scandal, and not surprisingly it hasn’t taken long for another of the mainstream players to demonstrate just how lazy their reporters have become, with the inthemix message board this time used as a crutch by a journalist from Melbourne’s Herald Sun.

Annalise Walliker, the Herald Sun’s youth affairs reporter, filed a story early this morning that was cobbled together almost entirely with quotes taken directly from inthemix’s Melbourne forums following discussion of last weekend’s Ultraworld dance party at Kryal Castle in Ballarat, Victoria.

In Annalise’s defense, the story – which proclaims Ultraworld as a ‘terrifying’ event – did include quotes from people outside of just the ITM Forum community, with 19 year old DJ Practice and 45 year old woman Lisa Knight also throwing in their opinions on the night, which was headlined by Paul van Dyk.

Naturally the Melbourne forum has responded to the latest episode with their tongue firmly planted in cheek, posting several threads dedicated to the Herald Sun’s sensationalist news:

> The increasing trend of the media quoting inthemix.com.au forums

> Post stuff here you want quoted in the herald sun!

> So who’s up for a rave at Herald Sun HQ?

Just to repeat what FlatHead has already stated. ALL the quotes were in fact taken from the itm Melbourne forum. Both Lisa and Practise are ITM users and she obtained their real names from myspace or similar.

OMG...awesome article! Ms Walliker should be fired for shoddy journalism, breaching the code of conduct, and using people's quotes/real names w/o permission.
