It was a decision that received a whole bunch of untoward attention from the mainstream and tabloid media (read about it HERE), but today we can confirm that dance parties will keep on rocking at Victoria’s Kryal Castle. In the face of controversy over a spate of drug overdoses at the Ultraworld event earlier this month, News.com.au reports the Moorabool Shire Council has voted to allow dance parties to remain. However, they’ll be putting a request through to the Victorian Civil Administrative Tribunal that permits be amended in order to tighten safety controls at the venue.

Dianne McAuliffe, mayor of Moorabool, has defended the council’s decision to allow dance parties to stay, conceding that such events will always be popular and that it was better to have a closely monitored event than to potentially encourage illegal and unmonitored parties out in the shire’s forest areas.

“I appreciate the view of the total ban,” she said. “There was a no-win situation for council last night. Someone was going to be upset or disappointed with what was being decided. While raves are certainly not an ideal event, they are always going to happen … but a controlled event is a far safer event.”

So for the moment, dance parties will continue at Kryal Castle, though it’s unclear what will happen when the three-year contract with the venue runs out next year. The next installment of the Universe event is scheduled to go ahead on February 23rd, and what is certain is that the punters and promoters will be under a whole lot more scrutiny, from both media and authorities alike.

It's great to see that raves will continue at Kryal Castle at least for the remainder of the duration of the 3 year contract. I agree that punters and promoters should under a lot more scrutiny. Firstly, Punters - I quote what TIMROBO74 said. No passouts under any circumstances to prevent the irresponsible ones from going back to their cars or camp sites, taking more drugs then coming back into the castle and blowing out when what they've taken kicks in. Also, no camping. Make it an event where you come in and go home. Secondly, Promotors (Hardware Corp) - I read in an article (http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,22902377-2862,00.html) that RaveSafe were banned/disallowed from attending the event. What the fuck was Hardware Corp thinking?!?!?!? What were they trying to achieve by not allowing RaveSafe to attend the rave?!?!? In Hardware Corp's defence, incorrect facts could have been published seeing the quality of the Herald-Sun publication (seeing where several times, front page news was about that wanker Ben Cousin - I know I'm deviating from the point here, but who really cares about crap like that when there's other news that more worthy of being front page news - I mean, COME ONE !!! - I must admit I am an occassional reader of this paper for nothing more than I need something brain-dead to read while I have lunch - OK enough about the Herald-Sun). Like i said in a previous post, let's have the police there for the safety of the punters. RaveSafe should also be there from a first-aid perspective. If I remember correctly, I don't remember seeing any obvious first-aid sign around the castle. The Herald-Sun on Wednesday December 12 ran a poll on "Should rave parties be banned". The results were published in the following day's paper and here they are. Should rave parties be banned? Yes 29% (489 votes) No 71% (1148 votes) Total of 1637 votes That's a good result to see all things considered. This great forum post on the SmilePolice website tells you all about sniffer dogs and what your rights are. It would pay to have a read. http://www.smilepolice.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=9809

and to amanadili - the reason the herald sun polled like that is because people like Hellraiser posted blogs with the links encouraging people to vote, before DJHR mobilised, the vote was swinging the other way i think. Herals Sun is pathetic.
