About to embark on the national Big Day Out tour and a run of anticipated solo club-dates around the country, world renowned techno DJ Carl Cox spoke with inthemix recently, going into detail on the highs and lows of his year in 2007.
Carl revealed that his personal highlight had been the roaring success of his King Of Clubs night at Space in Ibiza, which was a stark contrast to the horror of his gig at the Red Noise Festival in Caracas, Venezuela, where a gunman opened fire while Cox was DJing, tragically killing 4 punters.
“I think it’s really important to realise what’s going on around you, especially when something like that happens,” Carl remarked, before explaining his suspicions when about to play the gig.
“To be honest, I did have a certain reservation when I went on to play at this venue. Not with the people, [but] with the security. Sure enough, how I felt is what was lacked… if they had metal detectors or the guys [security] did their job, it would never have happened.”
