Dubbed ‘the White Stripes of new rave’, New York-via-London duo Shy Child are about to touch down in Australia for their second ever tour, bundling around the country as part of the 2008 Big Day Out. As if a spot on the summer’s biggest music festival wasn’t enough, they’ve now also been given the honour of opening up for Icelandic pop princess Bjork at her single Australian sideshow.

The show, which sold out within minutes late in 2007, is set to take place on Wednesday January 23rd at the idyllic location of the Sydney Opera House forecourt steps. To date Shy Child have supported names like Muse, Hot Chip and Klaxons, but we’d say the opportunity to warm up for Bjork will prove an unexpected career highlight. Shy Child’s planned solo shows in Sydney and Melbourne have now been cancelled as a result.

Stay tuned to ITM for updates.

That sucks! Was looking forward to seeing the boys in Melbourne. Saw them in the UK a couple of months ago and they were amazing.
