Over the past few years the We Love Sounds festival has grown to become one of winter’s most anticipated dance events. With previous headliners including Deep Dish, DJ Shadow, Tiga, James Zabiela and Grandmaster Flash, the rumour mill has already started on who we might see at the 2008 event. inthemix contacted the Sounds crew this week, hoping they’d be able to shed some light on the accuracy of gossip we’ve heard around the traps.
They were only too happy to oblige, and also let us know that the 2008 party will be the biggest one yet! “We Love Sounds will be returning to Sydney on Sunday 8 June, Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend,” Ben Korbel revealed to inthemix. “We’ve just received clearance for a venue increase, using the same venue layout as Mardi Gras. This is a first for a straight event, and will be growing substantially for 2008!”
That’s not all Korbel was willing to let us in on, as he also threw in a few ideas on who we might see at this year’s event. “We have several high profile German techno artists on the lineup, but can’t tell you who just yet. We’ve also got two of the UK’s most respected progressive head honchos. More than twenty internationals in all, many which haven’t ever been to Australia.”
“People have approached us with rumours including Sasha and Steve Lawler back to back, Felix Da Housecat in live band format featuring Hans Peter Lindstrom on drums. M_nus arena featuring Ricardo Villalobos vs Richie Hawtin? Corey live. Some of these have some truth and other are way off the mark! We hope to have the lineup out in the next month so there won’t be teasing for much longer..!”
Remember to stay tuned to ITM over the coming months as we bring you updates on this year’s We Love Sounds event.
