Fast growing into Australia’s very own version of the UK’s coveted Mercury Music Prize, the AMP (or Australian Music Prize) for 2007 recently announced their shortlist of albums in the running to take home the $25,000 cash prize. Winners will be announced at a ceremony in Sydney on Thursday March 13th, with past victors including The Drones and Augie March.
For the 2007 award there were over 190 entrants, which has been whittled down to a conclusive list of 10 finalists. Although ordinarily dominated by rock and indie acts, this time around there’s a number of releases in there representing the club and hip-hop scene, including the Midnight Juggernauts, Urthboy and Bluejuice.
2007 AMP finalists:
New Buffalo – Somewhere, Anywhere
Perry Keyes – Last Ghost Train Home
Midnight Juggernauts – Dystopia
Lisa Miller – Morning In The Bowl Of Night
Devastations – Yes, U
Architecture In Helsinki – Places Like This
Dardanelles – Mirror Mirror
The Mess Hall – Devils Elbow
Urthboy – The Signal
Bluejuice – Problems
Stay tuned to ITM for updates on who takes out the prize!
