Fans of uber-popular club night Kink have been left out in the cold these past few months, with the long awaited opening on their new venue Nevermind suffering set back after set back. Originally slated to open in time for the summer months, after a council obstruction that only granted the club a 2am license it was decided that the venue’s opening would be shelved until a proper 6am closing time was achieved. Well, it’s finally happened, and Scott Robertson of Kink told inthemix this week that Nevermind will soon open its doors. Finally!
“We initially planned to be open by December or January, but we ran into unexpected problems with the council and it has been a long and arduous task to get the club across the line,” Scott told inthemix, when interviewed for Kink’s 5th birthday this weekend. “They were insistent on giving us a 2am license, which would have left us dead in the water, but thankfully after a lot of hard work, sleepless night and considerable legal fees they have finally conceded and when we open we will have a full 6am license.”
The much hyped venue has a lot to live up to, but Scott is confident they’ll win back their hardened fans as well as new clubbers, with Nevermind (once known as Mylk) having been given a complete refurbishment. “I’ve been very active in every aspect of the design of the club, right down to the most minor detail,” Scott explained. “The guy who designed the legendary [sound] system for Cielo in New York is living in Byron Bay at the moment, and he will be designing our system. Funktion One want to make Nevermind their Australian showcase, so I think we are going to be in for something special.”
When asked when the club will finally open, Scott could only tell us “soon”, but be sure to keep your eyes on ITM over the coming weeks and months as we’ll bring you all the details first!
