Revolver Upstairs continue to surprise, providing a wide variety of styles every week – everyone must be happy! On Friday 16th May they present a huge live double bill, and it’s an interesting combo indeed. There’ll be Afrobeat on early, plus live Kiwi dub/reggae late.
First up is Afrobeat-jazz-funk-reggae master King Marong and his band Afro Mandinko. Mixing traditional West African instruments and rhythms with bass, drums, guitar, keyboards and a horn section, King Marong creates an eclectic hybrid of Afrobeat and funky sounds.
Next will be internationally-renowned and critically acclaimed New Zealand DJ/producer The Nomad, back again by popular demand. Known for seamlessly fusing hip hop, drum and bass, soul and jazz with trip hop and dub, expect killer grooves, bountiful bass, acres of space and crisp beats.
Damn what a night! Tickets are $12 before midnight and $15 after. Stay tuned to ITM Whatson for more info.
