Famed Sydney club night Sublime are entering the history books, as this July they’ll chalk up their 12th year in existence, making them ‘the longest running weekly dance music club night in the world’! It’s no mean feat in the fickle club scene, where attention spans are often about as long as Britney’s hair post-shave-incident, so the Sublime crew should be commended for keeping the club pumping all these years.
Having kicked off in 1996 at their infamous ‘Pitt Street’ location, Sublime quickly crew to become an institution in the Sydney scene, and when the original venue announced its closure was able to make a successful transition to superclub Home around the turn of the millennium.
Not surprisingly Sublime’s founder Simon Page is rather chuffed to have reached such a significant landmark. “While we perhaps expect the UK brands such as Ministry of Sound and Gatecrasher to still be around, it’s fabulous that a brand born in Sydney is keeping up with the big boys”.
To mark their 12th birthday they’ll be holding a massive event on July 11th, with a 12 hour party on the cards (stay tuned to ITM for full details!) Also exciting news for the Sublime faithful nationwide, for the first time ever the brand will hit the road for an Australia-wide tour.
But, as they say on TV, there’s more! You’ll be able to remember the milestone of Sublime’s 12th year by taking a slice of the club home with yourself as they release ‘Sublime XII Anniversary CD’ through Central Station next month.
Tickets for Sublime’s 12th birthday go onsale from inthemix on June 23rd. Stay tuned to the site for updates on the national tour and CD release.
