Touted as one of the true godfathers of the modern breakbeat sound, Rennie Pilgrem is heading back to Australia in late July for another national tour. Staying resolutely true to the breaks scene when many of his contemporaries ‘jump the bandwagon’ to the newest dance genres coming through, Pilgrem has established a name for himself as a producer and label owner, with his TCR imprint one of the scene’s most recognisable brands.
A lot has been said about Pilgrem’s breakbeat lineage, coining the term ‘nu skool’ alongside Tayo and Adam Freeland with their 90s club night Friction. Something we didn’t know, however, was that Rennie’s acclaimed 2004 mix CD ‘Perfecto Breaks’ was the first to utilise Ableton Live. You really do learn something new every day! He’ll be punting a new album on this tour, his third studio LP ‘Skin’.
Rennie Pilgrem tour dates:
Fri Jul 18 – Freshly Breaked @ Halo, Hobart
Sat Jul 19 – Yo-Play @ Birdie Num Num, Brisbane
Sat Jul 19 – The Club Club @ Chinese Laundry, Sydney
Thu Jul 24 – La La Land, Byron Bay
Fri Jul 25 – Brown Alley, Melbourne
Sat Jul 26 – Major Break 5 @ Gilkison’s Dance Studio, Perth
Stay tuned to ITM for updates.
