CHANGE CITY :
More than 20,000 devoted dance music fans voted in the 2008 Sony inthemix50; an all time record and increase of 31%. It’s been the most successful poll in its six year history and undeniable proof that Australia’s burgeoning dance scene is bigger and better than ever before. The nationwide acknowledgment of the inthemix50’s importance also signaled a raft of exciting changes to the final results.
Traditionally, Australia’s #1 DJ has hailed from NSW, but in 2008 we see a dramatic changing of guard take place. It’s time to crown a new prince of the Australian dance scene, with 21 year old Queensland prodigy Tydi stepping up to claim the top spot – the youngest ever #1 and the first non-NSW winner! In 2008 Tydi has played all of Queensland’s biggest dance events and festivals, held a weekly residency at famed superclub Family, and also signed his production work to Armin van Buuren’s internationally renowned Armada record label. It’s little wonder Tydi’s been able to storm to the top of the poll, however he’s not the only sunshine statesman to stamp his authority on the national list. The Stafford Brothers (#2) and Baby Gee (#4) also feature in the top five.
Ajax remains NSW’s most popular DJ at #3 nationally, while electro house chart toppers The Potbelleez rank at #5, their highest ever placing and no surprise after their runaway success in 2008. In another exciting first, Canberra outfit The Aston Shuffle grabbed the #6 position, making them the highest ever ranking from the ACT. Adam Bartas took the crown as Victoria’s top DJ at #7, followed closely by Queensland’s Raye Antonelli (#8) and fellow Melbournite Chardy (#9). Rounding out the top ten, international success story Dirty South represented once again for Victoria.

I love Aston Shuffles tracks, awesome producers, just not very good DJ's. Saw them a week ago and had to leave after 30 minutes of them stuffing up every mix. Baby Gee on the other hand, that guy could mix smoothly whilst making a coffee and ironing a shirt at the same time

Staffords are cheese. Cheese is main stream...Its bloody Awesome to see a trance DJ in Australia finally get number one! Look at the top 100 DJ's internationally, 5 in the top 10 are trance. Its about time Australia turned to some trance and away from cheesy electro and ministry of sound music. Sorry if you like it but I think this is a kick ass result. WELL DONE TYSON.

Emma Lake - you must have caught the shuffle on a bad day. Those guys have blown me away many times over. Mikah, in particular, is technically amazing, but also puts so much energy in to it. I'm really stoked they have done so well - thoroughly deserved.

Always controversial... gotta love it! The results of 10 - 20 showed a collective group of DJs that have been around for a while and are well established compared to the Top 10 list of DJs that are either appearing in this group for the very first time or have spent the past few years buliding their own fanbase. I'm surprised not to see many DJs in the list like Seamus and Craig Obey and many many more. It probably comes down to the most keen DJs pushing their fans, friends and family to submit a vote. Remembe it's not who's the 'Best DJ' performance and skill wise but the 'Most Popular'. Put us all in a DMC comp of you want to sort the men from the girls... see you next year!

As much as I think this whole popularity contest is stoopid scenesterism, I'm stoked to know that QLD is, for once in the spotlight. About time. There's more to Australia than a handful of the priveledged few. More power to ya Tydi, congrats...:)

Yeah Chemical Brothers 5th best international DJs, you what? Dudes DO NOT get DJs and producers mixed up. Just because they make great tunes, doesn't mean they can mix! Though many can, The Chems are not great DJs.

trance will never go away because there the only ones that are silly enough to vote on such a useless poll. the same thing with the internation poll, most people cant be bothered voting except those batty boys that like trance, hence tiesto and armin always getting the top 2.
