We’ve been hanging on the line the past few weeks. When would Stereosonic be making its way to Sydney, and what shape or form would it take? ITM can finally reveal the ‘satellite’ concept, with a series of shows to take place across four different locations across two weekends.

Satellite v1.0 will hit the Enmore Theatre on Saturday 22nd November with Get Physical stars Booka Shade. The Japanese Pop Stars are on support duties, and they’ve been hailed as the ‘future kings of dance’ (they’re from Northern Ireland, just in case you were wondering). Satellite v2.0 will be headed up by DJ legend Carl Cox at The Arthouse also on Saturday 22nd November, joined by Eric Powell and more.

For the trance fans out there, Satellite v3.0 will be a stupendously huge affair when it visits Home Nightclub for Sublime on Friday 28th November. Paul van Dyk, his Vandit Records sidekick Giuseppe Ottaviani, as well as psytrance stars Infected Mushroom all on the bill. The final Satellite v4.0 show will be a bang-for-your-buck affair at the Manning Bar featuring all manner of techno, fidget house and Ed Banger style electro-funk. It’ll sport the jam-packed line-up of The Crookers, DJ Hell, Vitalic, DJ Funk, Devlin & Darko, Tommie Sunshine, Headman, Dave Nada and Mr Maqs. Phew!

Late November surely is packed with dance music madness, check below for full details on the Sydney Stereosonic satellite shows.

if you dont like you dont have to come. How can you go past the value of these shows. And yes we had venues but in the end, if we cant do the right venues we want, why go and do it? When we come to Sydney in a daytime festival format, we want to do it our way and do it right. There is no point doing the same old venues everyone else does as that is NOT what Stereosonic is about. We are trying to keep an ethos across the country with Stereosonic, so Satellite is our concept for this year. Better than the acts not coming to Sydney at all. PVD, Infected and giuseppe will romp it at Home, Bookashade and Popstars will be awesome, the Friday Manning Bar gig is the best value Ive seen and Carl Cox and Friends will be a cracker. Some people wont like it, a lot of people will. You can't keep everyone happy. Oh well. There's other festival to go to at that time if thats what your into :)

What a waste of time. here i was looking forward to stereosonic FESTIVAL and its nothing but a pathetic way to score promoters a bit of extra money (its not like they fkn dont get enough off us from festivals anyway). honestly. your holding 4 events and you have the audacity to ask for $50 per event...yes, given that most would only go to 2...but regardless. what has become of sydney clubs and festivals. they're all just as money hungry as each other. first it was increasing covercharge to a Bullshet price. then the drinks...and u cant tell me that whole price increase was forced by the government... and now over charging us for tickets to so called "festivals". Its people that make up stupid events like this, that dishearten the sydney festival goers.

inthemix.com.au

Huggz says...

on September 18th, 2008

Stop your complaining people. There are already so many festivals happening at this time of year. Plus Stereosonic was planned to be on the same day as Global Gathering and probably realised they couldn't compete as they both pull the same crowd. this idea is much better. The Manning Bar show should be ace - DJ Funk, Spank Rock DJs and Dave Nada!

inthemix.com.au

JackT says...

on September 18th, 2008

Booka Shade at the Enmore - that's cool too. That Gaelic Club show was uber-messy.

inthemix.com.au

stu_jacks88 says...

on September 18th, 2008

Future purposefully put Global Gatherings on the proposed date of Stereosonic festival in Syd in an attempt to keep Onelove out of the Sydney festival market. Success to Future it seems. The satellite method seems to be the best that could have been viably done (financially for Onelove and enjoyment wise for punters) by Onelove this year. If you want to pay for the acts; then do so. If you dont think its worth it then dont go. Just remember that theres always stuff going on behind the scenes which have influence on the events you attend.

inthemix.com.au

MattyL says...

on September 19th, 2008

Every time i go to a festival i pay $100 or whatever and i see 2-4 acts all day. Here you can pretty much pick and chose which ones you want to go to and pay half the price. Clubs are so much better to hear artists at as well. If it was a night festival yeah, i'd be annoyed but this cold actually turn out pretty well for Sydney. Blame FUTURE for their anti-competition ways if you want to blame anyone however.

i think you people from syd don't appreciate a good club show... saw pvd twice last year.. once at metro and the other time at kryal castle... he absolutely blew the roof at metro whilst at kryal he was very average... i personally think you guys have scored big time for getting pvd at HOME.. if anything at least you will all avoid the crap crowd at big festivals

inthemix.com.au

I think it's pretty funny that when another festival is announced so many people on this forum are like *yawn*, yet when a festival tries to give you what you want i.e. club atmosphere and your favourite acts in one place, you all still complain... Basically whinging is the uber-cool trend of 08... Hats off to Totem for creating an interesting concept through an albeit unfavourable situation... Crookers, Hell, Vitallic, Devlin and Darko and the mighty DJ FUNK in one venue... pfft... I'm there will bells on... it's a no-brainer... And at least this way we won't have to hear hundreds of people WHINGING about set-time clashes...

A GREAT LINEUP. but truly appauling organisation. honestly You cant run round town like the queen of F***ing sheba telling all the dedicated festival punters that your gonna feed their need. THEN. decide your gonna use 'an all new sattelite concept" to blla blhadoo dah day BOU! what the f*** is a satellite concept? Its nothing but an INTERSTELLAR justification of being poo. seriosuly we live on a MASSIVE f**king island which is barley populated. as if there was absoloutley NO other venues? It is good though that you have acknowledged that Sydney has major venue issues with every festival and its dog choosing centennial park or the even crappier fox studios posse. maybe i just have sand in my vag.... i dunno. This would have been a top notch festival. PLAY-ON

All you people whinging about this kinda proves the point that not many people go to festivals for the music anymore.... Otherwise you'd all be stoked you get to see your fav acts, in a much more intimate environment, with decent set lengths, HEAPS better sound and a more 'up for it' crowd for half the price. I reckon this idea shits on having just ANOTHER outdoor festival this summer. Good on ya Stereosonic for doing something different!

Honestly, this is a complete disgrace and anyone who is not pissed off about it should think about this from the promoter's persepective. 1. They fucked up by not securing a venue 2. They're now trying to disguise their mistake and sell it to us at double the price in a completely different format from that which the label 'festival' entails. I work in a pub. If someone asks for a schooner of beer, and I pour Pure Blonde into four shot glasses, put one in the Pokies Room, one in the dining area, one in the toilets and one in the gaming room, charge them $2 for each one, and say "Hey man, congratulations, we're bringing you "quality beers in quality venues" , it's a satellite beer, get ready for it woohoo" I'd probably lose that customer for ever, and my job. They actually have people whose entire career is based on selecting venues for events. Why can't they get it right? And yes, before you say it, I am a sad loser, I signed up just so I could have this rant.
