Jam sent music fans into a flurry earlier this week when they released a cryptic e-mag featuring a ‘mystery sound’ style game, with brief audio snippets and pictures hinting at who will be headlining next year’s Good Vibrations festival.
Being such an industrious and musically knowledgeable bunch, the ITM community immediately got to work at trying to crack the code, doing their best to decipher the obscure musical clues offered up. We all remember that last year ITMers were the first to unscramble the Good Vibes line-up, so the questions remains; have you guys managed to do it again this time around? Let’s take a look!
Page 4: The overwhelming consensus is that the fishing lure equals Fatboy Slim, with the audio sample sounding a hell of a lot like Right Here, Right Now. The photo of the ‘Geno’s Steaks Restaurant’ on the other hand is a reference to what’s considered one of the best places to eat in South Philadelphia – and with a sample Rising Up, who else but The Roots?
Page 5: The ‘System Error’ image contains a sample from Stanton Warrior’s Pop Ya Cork, while the character from the Miami Vice inspired GTA: Vice City would suggest we’ll be getting a visit from Finnish DJ/producer Rico Tubbs.
Page 6: There’s little doubt among the ITM community that the ‘hungry’ cat on top of a computer screen is a reference to Deadmau5, and they’ve identified the snippet as originating from his track Hi Friend. On the other hand, it’s said the image of the infamous ‘Soup Nazi’ from Seinfeld contains a snippet from Wale’s Back In The Go Go.
Page 7: The image of Tony Hawk triggers a sample of Ladyhawke’s Paris Is Burning, while the ‘Bomb Squad’ specialist is a reference to the record label of the same name headed up by Micky Slim. You’ll also recognise a sample from his Jump Around remix included. Finally, the ‘Short Dick Man’ image contains a sample from Yelle’s Je Veux Te Voir – a song that apparently discusses the topic of small, err, you get the idea…
All that’s lacking now is consensus on who the bevvy of 1950s models on page 4 refers to, as well as the office block on page 6. Otherwise, the ITM community seems to think they’ve got it all sewn up! Has the inthemix community lived up to its reputation and once again uncovered the Good Vibrations festival line-up? All will be revealed when we make the official announcement on Thursday 2nd October.
