Following the police operation at Acer Arena’s Utopia event in early August, which saw 24 people arrested, the authorities were out in force over the weekend, once again at a party held inside the Homebush Olympic Park precinct.

Transmission at the Sports Centre was targeted, with 29 people arrested, leading to more than 40 supply and possession charges. In all almost 300 ecstasy pills were uncovered, with two 18 year old males found to be carrying 42 and 40 tablets each.

News.com.au reported a warning from Flemington’s Superintendent Alf Sergi that further operations were planned. “Over the coming party season, the police will be as much a fixture at these events as the loud music and crowded dance floor.”

“We make no apologies for coming down hard on anyone selling or using these so-called party drugs,” he said. “It is not only against the law but could end up killing you.”

Drugs and music go hand in hand - the authorities only go about it as being 'illegal' as it promotes free thought and earns them a hefty buck in the pocket ;) Cigarettes alone (for example) contribute to more deaths than illegal drugs.. and they are lega

if the cops are so concerned about drugs killing us, (which in the case of ecstasy they aren't killing us, unlike cigarettes and alcohol), they should focus on harm prevention by legalising and regulating drugs as opposed to trying to fight an impossible

Great to to see our hard-earned tax dollars being wasted on pathetic media-appeasing campaigns. 'lets catch 40 people out of 30,000 and we act like we are making a big difference'.

I wonder if Superintendent Alf Sergi is related to Pasquale Sergi who was recently charged importing the world’s largest quantity pills ($440 million/4.4 tones worth).
