The original – and in many people’s eyes, the best – the one and only Big Day Out will return once again in early 2009, trundling around the country in January and early February, serving up rock, indie, hip-hop, electronica and everything else in between.
As already widely reported, folk-rock godfather Neil Young will headline the 2009 tour, but now after much speculation the entire first round of artists has been revealed. Joining Young atop the bill, there’s local trio The Living End as well as celebrated UK indie outfit the Arctic Monkeys.
On the dance tip, there’s Pendulum and Simian Mobile Disco (as revealed on inthemix!), Sneaky Sound System, Cut Copy, The Ting Tings, and one that’s likely to excite a whole lot of ITMers, The Prodigy! Not to be outdone, if you like your indie, rock and metal, Bullet For My Valentine, TV On The Radio, Cog, Youth Group and much more are also lined up.
Of course this is only the first round, with the Big Day Out historically making two more announcements in the lead-up to the festival, so stay tuned to ITM for details. Tickets are $132+bf for all events nationally. They go onsale for the Sydney event Wednesday October 8th, followed by the Gold Coast on Thursday October 9th, with the remaining dates of the tour onsale Friday October 10th.
