The BBC called him “the godfather of electro”, and he’s influenced a ridiculously long list of artists throughout his amazing career, including dark lords of industrial metal like Trent Reznor and Marilyn Manson, right through to current club favourites like Basement Jaxx, Plump DJs and Armand Van Helden. He is Gary Numan, and in March, 2009, he’ll be touring Australia for the first time in almost 28 years.
It’s surprising to consider that Numan’s last (and only!) visit down under happened in May, 1980. Having had such a profound influence on modern electronic music, his shows will definitely be well worth checking out if you’re looking for a history lesson in original electronica. Numan will be playing music from throughout his expansive back catalogue, including albums Replicas, The Pleasure Principle and Telekon through to his most recent releases, Pure and Jagged.
Gary Numan tour dates:
Mon Mar 2nd – Brisbane, The Tivoli
Thu Mar 5th – Sydney, Enmore Theatre
Sat Mar 7th – Melbourne, The Forum
