Fuzzy’s big-ticket festival Parklife wound up its national run over the weekend, with the event taking over the Brisbane Botanic Gardens on Saturday before moving south to its spiritual home of Sydney for the final stage of the tour on Sunday. When Parklife returned to Sydney on Sunday for the final date of its national tour, it was the biggest party yet in the event’s 10-year history. Crowds were estimated at over 40,000 people, and while it saw the Moore Park venue used to its full capacity, it was also utilised to its full potential as it was a smoothly-run affair in typical Fuzzy style. Sporting three massive outdoor stages as well as an undercover tent, the 2008 edition of Parklife had no ‘main stage’ as such, as both the artists and the punters themselves were dispersed evenly throughout the grounds during the day.
It was the high standard of the music that stuck out most at this year’s Parklife, arguably more so than any other major event in the past 12 months. A solid lineup of local DJs and live acts held things down during the first couple of hours, with Ashton Shuffle in particular attracting a seriously impressive crowd for their opening midday slot, but once the international guests kicked off at around 4pm it was time for some seriously memorable party action. Lesser known acts like Neon Neon and Metro Area kept the music aficionados happy, but they were balanced out by proven festival favourites like Plump DJs (who were sporting their new ‘decks n’ fx setup) and Soulwax, who delivered a massive set that demonstrated clearly why they’re considered the live pinnacle of the indie/electro sound.
As is often the case with many large-scale festivals, the final couple of hours brings with it the dilemma of having too many excellent acts playing at the one time than you’d ever possibly be able to catch. Never was this more true than with Parklife ‘08, which had Dizzee Rascal hyping up the crowd in one corner of the festival, 2 Many DJs creating hysteria a few inebriated stumbles away, Does It Offend You Yeah? bashing out their best up top while over on the western end of the grounds, festival headliners Goldfrapp were handing it over to house veteran Martin Solveig. No matter which stage you found yourself at, the music was cranking.

have to say sydney parklife this year was about 100 times better than last year. i think that the less mainstream acts attracted less fluoro wearing twats and made a much happier crowd. music was awesome standouts being van she tech, diplo, and 2many djs ending the night with an awesome electro/hard set. top thing was this time could actually hear the music instead of turning it right down cos of complaints. good work fuzzy

too bad the sound was way too low at the earth stage and the blown speaker on the air stage which f@#kd up most sets. i wasnt overly impressed with the day, rather go to a future event than a fuzzy event.

Where can you read the comments from the Fuzzy promotors post event? We'd like to hear what they have to say about the sound quality at some of their stages at Parklife in Sydney over the weekend...Embarrassing

Geeez, how Parklife has evolved over the years - congrats guys. First aussie festival since being back in Oz and I must say, was blown away by the numbers! Some solids acts, but you know, the day just lacked the usual festival atmosphere you’d expect with 40,000 people – some sun and a sunset would have been helped I admit. Maybe it's the sign of the times and I'm outa touch or maybe it's just that Sydney element that seems to take over these large scale events over here now. The sound at the water stage was top notch, but appalling in the Earth tent – really bad guys. The Air stage struggled too. Look forward to hearing what you guys have to say about that. There is definitely a market growing over here for smaller festivals for the 30 where you don’t have to worry about being run over by a herd of 15 lads dressed the same. What’s with those white slip on shoes??? Someone’s making more money than Fuzzy…

Absolute Rubbish, Dizzie was pathetic, 2 Mandy Dj's wernt to bad, but they just ended with no huge bang. Ajax was solid as ever which i have come to except of him. Sound quility was ordinary. Does not even rate to last years light night with Muscles, Riot in Belguim and Justice killing at the end. Wasnt to much to choice from for food, but you come to expect that from a house/electro festival.

Positives were the line up, the crowd was great too... but... Geez the sound quality was miserable... especially in the earth tent. FUZZY PLEASE DO NOT INSULT ARTISTS LIKE THE PLUMP DJS IF THATS ALL YOU INTEND TO SUPPLY THEM!!!... it is a disgrace... i love your events but i would rather you not book artists that you can not deliver to us the proper manner.... LOUD!!!... p.s. 2 Many Djs were awesome!!!

soulwax, diplo, 2manydjs made my day, as well as grafton , ajax, and familjen, the rest were just rubbish, djs were horrible, at one stage i thought i was in a mgmt concert, they played too much commercial stuff, i mean i don't wanna hear switch crookers every 10 mins. Sound quality wise, ordinary, i feel sorry when 2manydjs played at air stage, sound quality were just crap. Some of the security guard also gotta do their job properly, there were several biffs during the day, and none of them also actually jump in to help, shame on them. 4.5/10 for me.

Quite disappointing that Riverstage was blocked off at the Brissy festival for hours.. Would've liked to have seen Goldfrapp

Phenomenal day! Started with AJAX and then SOULWAX followed by the outstanding DIPLO. Then it was the PLUMP DJs and finally 2MANY DJs. Couldn't contain myself. Far more positives than negatives from this year to even care about the little bits.

the gayness of flouro kids is way way way overpowered by the dudes that strut around shirtless in the fields. there is an awesome atmosphere on the dancefloor, but out on the fields there is way too many people there just because its a festival so they can get their kit off and show off their tattoos. 2manydjs brought the fuckin house down...loves it

SOULWAX, DIPLO, FAKE BLOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!! AMAZINGGGGGGG

For me, last year Brisbane parklife was way better. I still liked this years though but I have a feeling they stuffed a few things up with set times etc. EXTREMELY disappointed with them blocking off the river stage, and did Goldfrapp only play 6 songs? Everyone I have spoken to had was disappointed with something.. But i'm just glad I got to see Goldfrapp :)
cheechvda says...
chrisye....awesome point......only when you are on the dancefloor loosing the plot do you realise the vibe of the place...when you go for a walk, you see all the douchbags that go there to take there shirts off and show off their guns......but they had to pay $130 to do it...ahahh ...the vibe in the mosh for diplo ,fake blood and does it offend you was insane........YYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEWWW!!! cant wait for stereosonic and field day.....Boys noize and bookda shade....aahhhhh bring on the summer

First time to Parklife this year - great venue but I've gotta say I was a bit disappointed with the music. All I did all day was move around from stage to stage to try and find some good music!!!! Martin Solveig was the highlight of my day! Really looking forward to Harbourlife!

I had a great time at Parklife this year but the music was a bit of a let down, I felt like it was nearly the same type of music at every tent..soulwax and 2manyDJs were excellent and brought the house down at the end!! The crowd had a good vibe to, just wish the weather was a bit better. But I had a geat day hanging with my mates (when I could find them) and bustin out on the dance floor...cant wait till next year. Peace.
