How many of you out there were excited by the prospect of UK trance trio Above & Beyond playing at your house? In anticipation of their upcoming tour of Australia as part of the Global Gathering festival next month, ITM talked to Tony McGuinness of the trio this week, and he revealed just how excited he and his Anjunabeats comrades are by the prospect of playing at the houseparty of one lucky ITMer. In fact, Tony reckons it’ll give the trio the opportunity to take a step back to the days before they rose to the lofty heights of global trance superstars.
“I remember going to play at a house party with Dave Dresden once after a show we did in Sydney several years back,” Tony told ITM. “It wasn’t something you’d necessarily want publicised around, because you know what afterparties are like,” he laughed. “But to be honest, going clubbing and meeting people you’ve never met before, going back to their house to sit round drinking tea and playing records, it’s something that I very much miss about my old clubbing days. I still very much try and hang onto that, but it’s virtually impossible. This will give us a chance to do something like that again.”
The competition received an overwhelming response from ITMers when it was announced last month, and it’s not hard to see why. How often do we have the chance to enjoy international DJ talent playing at one of our house parties? ITM asked Tony how he expected the evening to unfold. “The thing about afterparties is you need to sit down and talk to your new best friend sitting next to you. While I suspect initially there’ll be a lot of people taking pictures of us, hopefully after 10 minutes they’ll realise that we’re just normal people. That’ll make it a bit more for us as well!”
If you haven’t entered the competition yet you better get in quick. Entries close at 6pm on Monday October 13th! Stay tuned for ITM’s feature interview with Above & Beyond in the coming weeks and don’t forget to make inthemix.com.au/globalgathering your first stop for all the latest news on Global Gathering, with news updates, interviews, DJ mixes, videos and more.
