With a bit of crafty sleuthing, inthemix has uncovered a few of the international acts set to make the pilgrimage to the one-and-only Playground Weekender in 2009. The event recently triumphed at the first ever Australian Festival Awards, taking out the Crowd & Atmosphere category.
Sitting pretty at the top of the list is rowdy raconteur The Streets. From his incendiary beginnings on Original Pirate Material, no one spins profound and witty tales of the daily grind quite like Mike Skinner. He mightn’t be on a council estate struggling anymore, but the man’s fourth album Everything Is Borrowed proves his storytelling smarts are undiminished. The Streets live band is well-attuned to the Australian festival circuit, too, so expect only the most raucous of parties at Playground.
The festival is also set to continue its tradition of booking only the finest pedigree of DJs. Revealing new shades to his sound with every visit, Nic Fanciulli will be bringing his top-shelf house to Del Rio Resort. Not to be outdone, one of 2008’s most name-checked producers, Jimpster, and X-Press 2 veteran Ashley Beedle are also on board. We can only guess there are many more distinguished names coming in the official line-up! If you’re not sure what to expect from Playground Weekender, check out the review and photos from this year’s event.
Stay tuned to ITM for the first official line up announcement on Thursday 6 November.
