While Neil Young’s presence on the top of the bill for this year’s Big Day Out received a varied response from the punters, there’s one thing everybody agrees on – next year’s installment of Australia’s largest and most popular festival will be sporting one of the finest dance lineups it’s had in years. With ITM favourites The Prodigy heading up the all-star cast along with appearances from Simian Mobile Disco, Lupe Fiasco, Hot Chip and Australia’s own DnB/metal superstars Pendulum, ITM can now confirm that all these acts will be playing sideshows throughout the tour in January.
First up of course is The Prodigy. The UK veterans are one of the greatest live dance groups to ever grace the stage and were they the one act to stir up the most excitement amongst ITMers when the Big Day Out lineup was first announced. There was a massive response to the news they’d be playing sideshows in Sydney and Brisbane, and ITM can now confirm they’re locked to play a Melbourne sideshow with a gig at The Palace on Thursday 29th January.
Close behind on the excitement stakes is Simian Mobile Disco who’ll be bringing their live show to Australia for the very first time, on the back of their critically acclaimed debut album Attack Decay Sustain Release from last year. They’ve been getting rave reviews from around the world, and they’re confirmed for sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne. London’s Hot Chip will be returning for another jaunt with the Big Day Out along with Chicago rapper Lupe Fiasco, with both acts winning over fans at the ’07 festival. Both are locked for sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne.
Last but not least, Perth act Pendulum have been ripping apart the stages all this year with performances that are rivaling The Prodigy in terms of their sheer live impact. The heavy metal and drum n’ bass hybrid showcased on their sophomore album In Silico might have confused the purists, but it’s won them over a massive new legion of fans. Effortlessly straddling the dance/rock divide, Pendulum will be returning home for the Big Day Out as well as a series of sideshows.
