Thought you’d hit the jackpot recently when you opened your email to find a message in your inbox informing you that you’d won VIP tickets to the 2009 Big Day Out? As the saying goes, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is… and in this case you can be certain of it.
The team behind the Big Day Out have issued a statement warning punters off a scam in operation at the moment. Called ‘phishing’, the scam involves an email from Ticketmaster or Facebook asking for personal information like your passport number, birth certificate, credit card details or bank statements.
Obviously alarm bells will ring the moment you receive an unsolicited email requesting your credit card number… but just in case you’ve had a big weekend and thought today was your lucky day – keep your wits about you!
