As if there was any doubt left lingering that 2008 was the year of The Presets, on Friday the electro-rock duo stamped their authority on the musical landscape by winning the Triple J’s annual ‘J Award’ for their critically acclaimed album Apocalypso. It’s the second time a Modular act has won the award, with Wolfmother picking up the inaugural trophy in 2005.

Joining The Presets as winners at the ceremony, Brisbane band The John Steel Singers took out the Unearthed award (unsigned to a major label), and The Herd scored the music video award for their single 2020, directed by Mike Daly. Other nominees for the J Award included Cut Copy, Sparkadia, TZU and Bliss N Eso.
