It’ll be NYD madness in Melbourne with the shock news that the second edition of Future Entertainment event The Hot BBQ will be merging with the city’s big-daddy of New Years Day dance events Summadayze! A “scaled down” Hot BBQ will make use of a fenced-off extension of the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, offering two new stages as well as the best of the international DJ lineup the festival was going to offer. The new stages will now be hosting Boys Noize, Busy P, Carl Craig, DJ Mehdi, Radioslave, Oliver Huntemann, Steve Aoki and more.

“Future Entertainment has said that the current economic climate has hit people hard – and rather than push two events this year, it’s in everyone’s best interests to consolidate,” the company said in a statement. “Future Entertainment will be freeing up Summadayze tickets originally put aside for an anti ticket scalping campaign, so that Hot Barbeque ticket holders can be looked after.”

Hot Barbeque ticket holders will have the choice of a either full refund for their purchase, or the option of purchasing an upgraded ticket to Summadayze for $50+BF that will also grab them a VIP pass. Summadayze ticket holders on the other hand will have access to the additional stages at no extra cost. Future have insisted that he comfort of punters will not be compromised by the merge of the two events.

Future advises that the Summadayze ticket upgrade offer will expire 6pm next Wednesday December 17, with ticket holders advised to email enquiries@futureentertainment.com.au for more information.

"Future have insisted that he comfort of punters will not be compromised by the merge of the two events." Being amoungst Fluro , 18 yr old munters is enough to make the average punter uncomfortable . Nice one Dickheads

haha i'm so glad i didn't bother with either of these. i'm getting so sick of festivals and all the bullshit that continually seems to accompany them. bring back the club gigs i say!

Massive disgrace. Hot bbq was a great thing. The line up that they've transferred to summerdayze fairly sub-par and misses some of the big draw cards for me. DISSAPOINTING FUTURE!!

How can Future Entertainment justify moving an entire event at the expense of their customers satisfaction. It's not always about financial gain Mark, if you offer the service then provide it. This is a sad day for Melbourne festivals indeed.

anyone have a rough idea of how many tickets may have been sold for bbq? sounds like a few on here were/are going. i thought it was getting more popular this yr?

After the crap that we were forced to endure at SD 2008 you'd be best getting the refund, pool the coin, have your own BBQ with some mates (not muzza's roided off their faces) with some good tunes. Festivals are not what they used to be...

not the first ever event to get cancelled, not sure what the fuss is about. certainly wouldn't even make a tiny dent in the future coffers money wise, they're the biggest (and the best if we're being honest) out there by quite a stretch.

how is it greed to not want to lose thousands of dollars? sounds sensible to me.

kazzadee

kazzadee said on the 11th Dec, 2008

Very disapointing.. and then and extra $50 if we want to attend the merged event?? shocking. Hot Bbq was the alternative to the glow stick trippers at summadayze was awesome last year. And to wait till December to let us know?? Thanks.

Edstacee

Edstacee said on the 14th Dec, 2008

Just go to Sydney for Days Like This on Jan 4..most of the same (better) acts are on that bill, and some other better ones. I think Future have over stretched themselves this year in a crowded market, and have to consolidate..unfortunate, cos you had one
