There’s certainly been some epic parties going down across the country over the past few days, and the Summafieldayze festival in the Gold Coast can definitely take the crown as one of the most anticipated New Year events, featuring the cream of the international electronic talent in the country at the moment as well as the enviable double-Dutch bill of Armin van Buuren and Ferry Corsten. However, one individual who didn’t ended up finishing the day on the best of notes was inthemix50 #1 tyDi. In spite of being given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of closing the festival after seminal live favourites Underworld, things ended on a sour note following technical difficulties during the changeover between performances, which also saw him at the mercy of the venue’s questionable sound restrictions.
“The changeover between Underworld and myself meant that the equipment was not set up properly, the sound in the mixer was cutting in and out, and there is no sound in the booth monitors,” tyDi told ITM today. “I am not one to complain about technical problems or sound levels but in this instance it really made what could have been an amazing finish to the night into a nightmare. To top this off there was a very very low noise restriction put in place as soon as I started my set.” The crowd were obviously thirsting for an upbeat finish to the day, but sadly what they were left with was not being able to hear the music over their conversation, quickly leading to chants of ‘turn it up, turn it up’.
“To all the people that were asking me to turn it up, unfortunately it was out of my control and I am just as disappointed as they were,” tyDi told ITM. “It’s a really upsetting thing for a DJ to be playing to a crowd that can barely hear the music, and I was very concerned up there.” He emphasised that such technical faults are sometimes unavoidable and otherwise, the festival was beautifully run and extremely professional in all other areas. “So I’m just saying sorry from the deepest of my heart to all my fans and to anyone who came to enjoy my set, and was left watching a stage being packed away with a sound level so quiet it made dancing impossible… Thank you to the people who stayed to support me, and I’m sorry that the music had to be that quiet. Next time I will make sure its LOUD!”
