(Bang On! – Central Station Records)
Yakooza’s Cocaine is most probably one of the biggest dance tracks out at the moment. Its being played on commercial radio and in the clubs and many have been waiting months to capture the single.
I’d first heard of the track on the compilation ‘Utopia 2’ months ago and at that time I did find it an interesting hard edged trance tune, but now after hearing several times over and over it really doesn’t interest me much at all.
The single contains 6 mixes of 2 separate tunes, ‘Cocaine’ and ‘Stronger’ For both tunes you simply have the Radio Mix, DJ Wag Remix and the Flash Remix.
DJ Wag (aka Yakooza) does a better mix of ‘Cocaine’ and is the mix that is played in many clubs today. Its tough beats, rolling bassline and dark synthy riff makes it a quality tune but one that may bore some people with its slow and quiet breakdowns.
Flash Remix of ‘Cocaine’ is hard to describe, no real big buildups or anything but some bleepy sounds that tries to overcome the original tune but doesn’t do very well.
‘Stronger’ another Yakooza tune that’s featured on here may seem like a bit of a waste. It sounds almost no different in many parts to ‘Cocaine’, yet again the DJ Wag Remix is respectable and at times I believe its better than ‘Cocaine’ but it is still pretty un-original. The Flash Remix again sounds almost the same as the DJ Wag Remix but does has its moments especially with its cool acidy riff.
This single is yet more solid proof of how the tougher trance sound is breaking through to the commercial ranks. I am certain that in the months to come we will hear some more stuff from Yakooza and also many more similar sounding tunes that will want their share of commercial success.
