No one could have predicted just how much interest inthemix’s Future Music Festival DJ Comp would stir up, with literally thousands of people logging in to check out the finalists and vote on their favourite over the past few weeks. Of course it should come as no surprise considering the prize was something most aspiring DJs would gladly sell their mother for; return flights, hotel accommodation and the opening set at the Brisbane leg of the Future Music Festival!

Voting closed on Friday night and we’ve finally finished the tally to find the ultimate winner. Behold your next generation DJ star – Sydney’s Hey Now! It turns out Hey Now are actually a four-man collective, and the mix submitted for the competition was put together by Andrew Rose. He’ll be stepping up to claim the prize with his partner in crime Hayden Luby. Andrew was, understandably, rather stoked when we gave him a call to notify of his win, and he also brought a smile to our dial when he informed us that he discovered the joy of clubbing through inthemix.

“This is amazing,” Andrew said excitedly. “The first club gig I ever went to was an inthemix Christmas party at Space in Sydney when I was young, and now years later you guys have given me the opportunity to play at Future Music Festival. The support you give to the scene and to young DJs like us is so important and I thank you for the opportunity!” Andrew was also quick to congratulate all of the finalist DJs, telling us he’d been listening to their mixes in the lead up to today’s announcement. “A big shout out to all the other finalists in this comp,” he said. “I’ve spent the last week and a half listening to all the mixes and I wish I had the knowledge and patience of some of these mixes. You guys all deserve this.”

We’ll have Hey Now’s first hand account of the wild weekend they have ahead of them next week, so be sure to head back and find out how it all goes down. Congratulations to Hey Now, and also to all of the finalists who were selected.
