Sydney’s most popular clubbing destination Kings Cross was marred by violence over the weekend, with a man shot twice in the leg after an argument in the early hours of Sunday morning. The incident occurred on the area’s busy Darlinghurst Road shortly before 3am, with police pursuing a hooded gunman they believe was responsible for the shooting down Bayswater Road before losing sight of him around 2.40am.
Police say their search of the surrounding areas was unsuccessful in locating the suspect. The injured man was taken by paramedics to St Vincent’s Hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
The Nine News website has published a rather frank account of the incident from a witness identified as Clare, who claims the clash took place outside of a strip club. “My friend Swan and I came out of a tattoo, and there were these two [men] fighting. And the fatter [man] said to the skinnier [man], ‘Oi bro, you slept with my cousin ay’. And the other one said ‘Nah man, I didn’t for shit ay’.” She claims the larger man then pulled out a gun and fired twice at the man he was arguing with.
Police have profiled the suspect as aged in his 20s with a medium-size build, and say that he was wearing a black hooded top and jeans when fleeing the scene. Anyone with information about the shooting has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
