Kink giving way to Locodisco

Since launching Nevermind in October last year Scott Robertson had persevered with his much-loved Kink brand on a weekly basis, pushing a decidedly underground sound, unfortunately with mixed results. There’s no denying there have been some high points along the way – who could forget Luciano’s encore set in early December – however in a fickle scene it has been a hard slog for Kink to find its feet.

Now, after a solid 9 months of hard work the decision has now been made to retire Kink as a weekly club night at Nevermind, and it will be making way for a brand new party titled Locodisco. Kink will not be fading into the night, however, as it’ll return on long weekends and for special events. “At the moment there just isn’t a big enough audience to support a club of Nevermind’s size on a weekly basis with Kink’s underground music policy,” said Robertson.

Full details on Locodisco are still to be announced, so stay tuned to ITM for updates over the coming weeks. If you’re a Kink die hard, though, perhaps make it a priority to get down to Nevermind at some point soon to have one last dance before things wind up!

Do you get the feeling that Scott did such a good job in marketing Nevermind during it's construction etc that he completely forgot about keeping the Kink brand in shape or assumed that it would remain successful on it's own two feet??

Addmitedly I only went once, however there was a massive disconnect between the music policy and the crowd. While the sound system and music was great when we checked it out, the just turned 18 fashionistas trying to look classy with their bottles of cham

just turned 18 fashionistas trying to look classy with their bottles of champagne just don't gel with "underground" - as opposed to what? seems to me that in order to be 'fashionable' in the underground scene you have to dress like s#it.

I like Kbanga's suggestion of solving the problem by putting a failing club night in a bigger venue.. now if we can just apply his talents to solving the GFC we should get back on track..

here's the soapbox rant for this week kids - Scott Robertson is an excellent promoter with very good connections and a very reliable source of good musicians/dj's and producers. the problem is, yes, 'fraid to say it-but NEVERMIND. This club has a shocking

Haven't been there but like the rant regardless. Just a pointer though - paragraphs make rants easier/more satisfying still to read!
