Much hyped American five-piece Passion Pit released their hotly tipped debut album Manners last week, and it caps off a rather frenetic rise to fame for the band who only formed late in 2007. Having drawn comparisons to countrymen like MGMT and Animal Collective, Passion Pit put out their first official EP not even 12 months ago in August, 2008.
The amount of attention they’re getting from the UK and US media, not to mention the blogosphere in general, has been deafening, and over the coming months they’ll have the chance to prove they have the chops to back it up on the live circuit with a grueling tour schedule around their home country and Europe. For those who’ve been watching the band’s rise to fame from afar, you won’t have to wait too much longer to get a taste for yourself.
Speaking with FasterLouder this week the band’s drummer Nate Donmoyer let us in on a little secret, revealing their intentions to visit Australia at some point over the 2009/10 summer. “We have a couple of offers up on the table right now, [and] we’re deciding which [one] is the best and smartest option,” he said, speaking down the line from ‘a desert like area somewhere between San Francisco and LA.’
So exactly where, and when, is the mooted tour likely to take place? “[It could be] as early as December 26th we would fly in, and be there for New Years and stuff. The second option we might do is at the end of January.” Asked whether it’s either the Falls Festival or Big Day Out on their horizon, Nate confirmed they’re both in the running. “Yeah it’s one of them, I’m not sure which one,” he revealed.
