A 13 year old girl was found unconscious on a couch in a Tuggeranong bar last Saturday night by ACT police. The visit was part of a sting in the area from the liquor licensing inspectors that’s been underway since earlier in May, which has seen pubs and clubs from all over Canberra getting a visit.
In addition to the inebriated 13 year old, there were 27 other teenagers under the legal drinking age found in the same venue. ACT police have highlighted the find as an “appalling” example of what Superintendent Michael Chew says is a disregard for the Liquor Licensing Act.
“The responsibility lies with the licensees of these premises to ensure that the people that enter their premises are above the age of 18, and secondly adopt some Responsible Service of Alcohol guidelines to ensure that intoxicated people aren’t continued to be served throughout the night,” he said.
The campaign is continuing, so if you head out on the weekend make sure you have photographic identification at the ready!
