Ministry of Sound releases Sessions 6 compilation. Said compilation features new single from Tommy Trash called Need Me to Stay. Ministry releases raunchy video clip to promote single. It’s a pretty standard series of events, but do you think ninemsn were pleased with how it all went down? Oh no, course they weren’t! The news outlet were up in arms over the clip, questioning whether it should be classified as a “music video” or as “soft-core porn” instead.
“We reckon that the only people who make porn-ier video clips than rappers are dance music DJs,” ninemsn said, beating its chest in frustration at just how bad things have gotten. “Don’t believe us? The screenshot above isn’t from a blue movie… it comes straight from the clip for Tommy Trash’s track Need Me to Stay off the new album Ministry of Sound Sessions Six. The clip is basically three steamy minutes of two scantily clad girls rubbing up against each other in a shower.”
Wow. A dance music clip featuring several scantily clad ladies. It’s most definitely a first for the industry, and it needs to be stopped before it gets out of hand. At least there ain’t no accusing Need Me to Stay of being gender discriminatory. “Before you protest the clip is sexist, it also features a hot Speedo guy to appeal to the girls and the gays.” Well, at least “the gays” are being kept happy! There’s a silver lining on this cloud of titillating exploitation after all.
Here at ITM, we’d like to point out that there’s nothing really new about softporn in dance music clips (we’ve arguably been doing it for just as long as those “rappers”, and maybe even “the gays”). Need Me to Stay aint got nothing on Eric Prydz’s notorious Call on Me, and you might remember a few weeks ago ITM put together a gallery of the “Top 15 moments of sexploitation in dance music”. Solely for the sake of drawing attention to this immoral practice of course, so it can be stopped…
