As if Australia’s most popular indie-dance act The Presets hadn’t dominated the musical landscape enough over the last 18 months, there’s now yet another conquest they’ve added to their tally. Last night the duo of Kim Moyes and Julian Hamilton took home one of the highest accolades at the annual awards night for APRA (Australasian Performing Right Association), securing the trophy for ‘Songwriter of the Year’ for their Apocalypso album. Well done boys!
It’s high praise indeed, with The Presets’ talents recognised by the APRA’s board of Writer and Publisher Directors, who also highlighted the talents of The Potbelleez with a ‘Dance Work of the Year’ award for their hugely anthemic Don’t Hold Back. But ultimately it’ll be adding more clutter to what’s become an overcrowded awards cabinet for the Sydney pair. For Apocalypso they’ve already racked up three ARIA Awards, three more ARIA ‘Artisan’ Awards, the J Award for ‘Album of the Year’, the FBi SMAC Award for ‘Album of the Year’ and ‘Best Local Act’ at the Fasterlouder Festival Awards. Phew… that’s a lot of award ceremonies to attend!
That’s not even mentioning the fact they’ve just wrapped up a massive national tour that saw them selling out the sort of venues usually reserved for huge international acts. Maybe now they’ll finally return to the studio to produce that long-awaited follow up to Apocalypso? Only time will tell.
Still haven’t heard Apocalypso yet? The ‘tour edition’ two-disc set is currently in the stores through Modular and Universal.
