The Australian branch of Ministry of Sound are having a thundering year, delivering releases that cover nearly every different corner of local dance culture, and they’ll be taking this one step further with their planned The Underground 2009 compilation. It’s a three-disc release due to hit the shelves in mid July that explores the different flavours of underground house and techno holding sway in the clubs, and again they’ve recruited a slew of credible names to handle mixing duties. Justin Martin, Style of Eye and Klaus Hill no less!

It’s an impressive crew of DJ/producers indeed. Dirty Bird leader Justin Martin is coming right off the back of a smashing Australian tour over the June Long Weekend, Sweden’s Style of Eye have just completed an Essential Mix for BBC1 and have been making massive waves over the past 12 months, while Klaus Hill is musically as eclectic as ever and will be taking the release on the road for a national tour.

Ministry of Sound haven’t been short of releases with mass appeal this year like Sessions 6 and Clubbers Guide to 2009, but the new Underground 2009 mix CD sees them sees them complete their hat-trick of ‘edgier’ mix CDs; slotting in neatly alongside Progression 2 and the upcoming Trance Nation (read about it here).

Ministry of Sound’s The Underground 2009 hits the stores on July 17th, and you can catch Klaus Hill touring in support of its release:

Fri 24th July – Grand Hotel, Wollongong
Sat 25th July – Gilligans, Cairns
Fri 7th Aug – Duke Hotel, Wagga
Sat 8th Aug – Gemini Hotel, Griffith
Sat 15th Aug – Studio 146, Albany
Fri 28th Aug – Platinum, Gold Coast

The first one they did was awesome, the underground 2008. Lots of classics the normally would never see the light of day on a real cd.

Great to see the techno and proper house spectrum side of things be showcased to the wider community, but would have been a bit better if for a local dj they had some one like Deepchild or Emerson Todd. Hopefully will bring a stronger opportunity to see

Klaus Hill did a deep/techno-ish mix for the Strongarm Sessions a while back and it was really very good.

FtMOde, this is still a commercial release, no matter what they call it. deepchild is an outstanding producer and a great dj too, but no one who would buy a MOS compilation would do so because he'd mixed it. Assuming he'd even take their offer to mix it t

Great to see... but if MOS releases it, the tracks are immediately NOT underground anymore. Not saying that's a bad thing though; it's time to educate the electro kids
