Global Gathering sits it out for 2009

While earlier this year it was looking like one of the world’s greatest dance music brands Global Gathering would be returning to Australia, it has now come to pass that local promoters Future Entertainment won’t be bringing the festival back in 2009. While currently there’s no hard news on when we’ll be seeing the festival again, Future have confirmed it will indeed return to Australia, with rumours suggesting we may be lucky enough to see a refreshed Global Gathering dropping at a different time of the year in 2010.

ITM spoke to Future Entertainment’s Mark James earlier this year on what we could expect from the festival when it returned to Australia. “We’re going to go with more of a ‘massive DJ’ lineup,” he told ITM, indicating we’d see a shift in the festival’s musical programming away from the mixture of live and electronic acts that were toured in 2008.

Could this be a sign of things to come for the brand? Either way, it looks like it’s not the last we’ll see of Global Gathering in Australia.

Stay tuned to ITM for all the news on Global Gathering as it comes to hand.

perth was crap last year. i saw every single artist on the bill. not because i wanted to see them all, because i had to keep moving in order to find someone putting in a decent set. sadly, i walked away disappointed.

Sounds good to me! Global Gathering always meant big big big so I look forward to seeing what's instore. Guess this means Above & Beyond won't be out for a bit longer though (unless they're a likely Summadayze inclusion).

Surely they lost a fortune promoting the event last year...maybe thats a large factor considering the current environment. As much as his album wasnt in the EDM genre, Mark Ronson was awesome!

^ wtf?? we need way more above & beyond if u ask me... but not on a side stage. GG sucked in melbourne due to the worst weather at a festival to date, and also that it was at the music bowl. everyone is sick of that place!

mark admitted they couldnt compete with stereosonic again.. good news is that all the previous bookings for GG will now play club gigs (eg Sasha)

frank_k what makes you think they woulda booked artists for GG and only postponed it after?...wouldn't it make more sense to either a) confirm the date first or b) postpone it then ask all the djs if they wanna play at the new date at easter?

they are probably just moving it to march or april 2010 and having a better lineup. who cares, hopefully it';s for the best!

Please be advised this is a ITM interpretation and speculation of the Global Gathering festivals for Australia. Future Entertainment will be making and official announcement in the coming weeks on our web site.

GG Brisbane was one of the year's best festivals. This was probably due largley to the fact that it was a relatively small and like minded crowd with an awesome line up.

Couldn't hurt to change things up a bit, many of the festivals are getting a bit samey. I'd like it if it was more dance music centric, breaking things up into trance/psy, house, electro, techno in the various areas. But that's probably just wishful think

mattpolo8

mattpolo8 said on the 30th Jul, 2009

melb's GG last year was horrible, shitful weather didn't help... but trying to pass off "Gorillaz Sound System" as a headline act was a joke. infact for a brand with such a reputation it was low to expect people to enjoy that. and telling the public Kraft

Agreed GG in Perth was really bad!!! It needs to be as crazy as the UK one, I went to GG ova in the UK last year and it was insane. it also needs to be a 2day event not theses lame 1dayers.

Damn that sucks. was really looking forward to this one even though GG last year in Brisbane was TERRIBLE! It was still a great day but by far the worse festival I have been to in AUS.. Sasha's sound system failed TWICE and stopped, Above & Beyond had to
