After tearing apart the Laundry Tent at Good Vibrations earlier this year with a ferocity that matched only Deadmau5’s efforts in whipping the crowd into a frenzy, one of breakbeat’s most elite acts the Stanton Warriors will be back in November. While so far there’s only details of the duo’s Against The Grain gig at Brown Alley in Melbourne, so far it’s looking like being a tour that’ll take place in dark, dirty clubs. Hell yeah.
The global breakbeat genre has been for the most part keeping quiet during 2009, with a solid crew of underground producers working to build the scene back up to its former glories. Amongst this, the Stanton Warriors have been one of the few breaks acts able to stand tall at festivals around the world alongside their DJ/producer colleagues, transcending genre limitations while also staying true to their sound. Earlier this year, the duo’s Dominic B talked to ITM about bringing breakbeat back.
“We are flying the flag. We haven’t given in, we’re not playing 30 per cent house in our sets or token dubstep tunes. We’re sticking with our formula of broken beats 100 per cent… When all is said and done, we’ve put a lot of years, time and effort into the sound. We’re in it for life, and we definitely want to see the whole thing move forward.”
Stanton Warriors play Against The Grain at Brown Alley in Melbourne on Friday November 27th. Stay tuned to ITM for full national tour dates, and for something extra tasty check out their latest heavy-duty remix of Rye Rye & M.I.A’s Bang below…
