It was just last week that we ranted about the potential horrors of hip-hop and R&B artists sampling big name electro acts, as was plainly evident in the rather turgid Justice rip from UK smooth-star Nathan. Thankfully though, Aussie hip-hop superstar Phrase has come out with his new single to prove that such electro-meets-rap hybrids don’t always have to suck and that they can in fact be all sorts of awesome.
The single is called My People and appropriately enough, lifts key parts from The Presets’ super-sized single of the same name. Produced by M-Phazes, Phrase’s My People stretches out the electro duo’s hit, slowing it down a few notches and throwing in some terrifically crunchy beats and even a Phil Collins grab to boot. Ace.
To top it all off, Phrase took his homage one step further by remixing the original My People video and you can check out the rapper’s take on it below.
“What started out as a little audio bootleg by M-Phazes has now turned into a video bootleg courtesy of DJ Flagrant. Much respect goes out to The Presets for making an amazing song that has been in my ipod on repeat and also much respect to Kris Moyes who made an AWESOME video clip for an equally AWESOME song,” Phrase wrote on his YouTube account.
With this being as great as it is, we hope that The Presets and Phrase take their partnership to the next level and mash-together their respective albums Apocalypso and Clockwork to make Aclockalypso. Too much?
