It was with great sorrow that ITM reported the news over the weekend that Los Angeles club stalwart and celebrity DJ AM had died of a suspected drug overdose. In the days following the death of DJ AM (who went by Adam Goldstein out of the booth) a great number of dance music figures and personal friends have spoken out about the late DJ, including the crew over at Jam Music, who had locked in DJ AM for a slot on 2010’s epic Good Vibrations festival.
Issuing a statement early this morning, Jam Music and their CEO, Justin Hemmes, expressed at length their sadness about Goldstein’s untimely death, detailing how excited the festival promoters originally felt to have DJ AM as a part of next year’s Good Vibrations festival.
“We’d like to extend our sympathy to the friends and family of DJ AM on hearing the tragic news of his passing. Adam Goldstein (DJ AM) was an incredible and innovative DJ who rocked some of the most amazing parties across the world during his time behind the decks – and he rocked them well! We were all excited that DJ AM had confirmed that he would join us for the Good Vibrations Festival tour in 2010 and were looking forward to sharing his skills with Australia in February,” the statement reads.
“DJ AM was an incredible talent. His set with Travis Barker at Coachella this year was unforgettable – so energetic and energizing. As soon as I saw that show, I was determined to bring him out for Good Vibrations and couldn’t wait to watch our audience enjoy his set as much as I had. Our thoughts are now with his friends and family,” Hemmes wrote.
The Good Vibes crew aren’t the only ones feeling the loss of DJ AM, with many of Goldstein’s close friends taking to Twitter for an outpouring of grief.
“I can’t even begin to translate how I feel. just am so devastated. So fucking devastated,” frequent collaborator and fellow DJ Steve Aoki wrote in a Twitter entry. “I’m so destroyed by this loss. Everything reminds me of adam. I love u so much my brother. I miss u so much. U r my inspiration. I love you.”
Jam Music’s statement also included a link to footage of DJ AM’s performance with Travis Barker at this year’s Coachella and we also think that the clip below serves as a fitting tribute to the late DJ, sadly offering up a glimpse of what might have been at next year’s Good Vibrations.
